A lot to be thankful for

Thanksgiving 2017

After a very eventful November, I am finally on the mend…praise the Lord. Following a visit to the ER in the wee hours of the morning of Nov. 6th, I had my gall bladder removed. I stayed in the hospital for two days. My husband, mother-in-law, and mom took care of the baby because I could not lift anything more than a gallon of milk per doctor’s orders. I was doing well for a week and then on Sunday morning, I returned to the ER with excruciating abdominal pain…after 12 hours in the ER and every test under the sun…they determined that I had a bile leak as a result from the gall bladder surgery. They took me back to surgery and stitched up a hole in my liver and put in a drain tube, which I went home with after a night in the hospital. Recovery was much slower this time. Round 2, was much worse than round 1. My mother stayed a few more days followed by my mother-in-law coming to our house around 5:30am for many days before Kirby went to work so that she would be there to tend to the baby. Finally, on November 22nd, I went to a follow-up appointment and they removed the drain tube….O..U..C..H..!! The med student who was in the room with me was excellent…he tried to get my mind off of what they were doing by asking me questions about my Thanksgiving plans and the book that I was reading. He even let me hold his hand and squeeze when it hurt. I had taken myself to the appointment because my husband had already missed several days of work…and I thought that this drain removal would have been a piece of cake…not exactly…but it is out and I am sore all over again. The nurse told me that I could go home and pick up my baby…thank you Lord. She also said you can do whatever you feel like doing. I want to say kudos to the staff at Rush ER and hospital for taking good care of me, twice, and kudos to Dr. Makey and Dr. Lee and their staff. I want to thank my husband, mother-in-law, mom and dad, for taking good care of me, and the baby for the last 16+days. I also want to say thank you to friends and family that sent flowers, brought food, and came by for a visit. You don’t know how much we appreciate you!! #thankfulgratefulblessed #monthofthegallbladder #onthemend #joysoftoday
